ACTING
FOR LIFE:
ADVANCED
Human Behaviour · Communication · Transformation
QUICK INFO
8 classes · 2.5 hours · 20h total
A deeper continuation of Acting for Life Foundations, focused on human behaviour, communication, creativity and transformation.
Advanced takes the tools introduced in AFL further, towards a deeper understanding of how we act, communicate, influence, react, adapt and transform, and what lies beneath visible behaviour.
The work connects everyday life and acting practice. It develops greater awareness and freedom in communication, relationships and self-expression, while giving actors practical tools for understanding character, motivation, action, subtext and transformation.
CORE THEMES
01. Voice, Speech & Rhetoric
Developing a stronger, more flexible voice and clearer expression. Articulation, speech, rhetoric, presence and confident communication.
02. Attention, Improvisation & Creativity
Training spontaneity, imagination, flexibility and creative thinking. Learning to stay present, react quickly and move beyond habitual responses.
03. Emotions & Emotional Freedom
Expanding emotional range and expression. Working with emotional transitions and developing greater freedom in accessing, changing and expressing different emotional states.
04. Objective, Action & Subtext
Understanding what drives behaviour. Working with intention, objective, action, circumstances, context and the meaning beneath spoken words.
05. Psychology of Communication
Exploring how communication works in practice: listening, influence, status, boundaries, relationships and verbal and non-verbal behaviour.
06. The 12 Archetypes of Human Behaviour
Exploring twelve archetypal patterns as different ways of thinking, acting, communicating and responding to the world. A tool for both self-observation and character development.
07. Transformation: Animality & Object Work
Breaking habitual physical and behavioural patterns through observation and transformation. Expanding movement, rhythm, energy and character possibilities through psychophysical acting techniques.
08. Real-Life Situations & Psychodramatic Practice
Working with real situations through theatrical re-enactment, role changes and different perspectives. A practical way to explore behaviour, relationships, communication and alternative ways of responding.

GOOD TO KNOW
Acting for Life: Advanced — is the second level of the Acting for Life programme.
It is designed for people who already have a foundation in body, voice, attention, imagination, emotions and improvisation and are ready to move beyond the basics.
At this level, the focus shifts from learning individual tools to understanding human behaviour in greater depth: what motivates us, how we communicate, how we influence and respond to others, and how we can move beyond habitual ways of acting.
For Acting for Life graduates, Advanced is the natural next step.
The course is also open to participants with previous acting experience and a solid foundation in the core areas of the first-level programme.
If you have not completed Acting for Life Foundations but these areas are already familiar to you through previous training, you may also be ready to join Advanced.
Priority is given to AFL alumni.

ADVANCED + THEATRE LaB
Acting for Life: Advanced can be taken independently or combined with THEATRE LaB.
Advanced focuses on behaviour, communication, transformation and the tools behind the acting process.
Theatre LaB gives participants the opportunity to apply this work more deeply through character development, scenes, rehearsal and performance.
Together, the two programmes create a natural progression:
understand the tools → expand your range → apply them in theatrical work
