THEATRE LaB
By
ArT PLATFORMA & TEATR FORMA
THEATRE LaB is a creative theatre laboratory built around the process of creating an original stage work.
From the first idea to a final showcase in front of a live audience.
The participants become the main instruments. They are the material & inspiration for the work.
Each LaB is unique: the group is offered several possible directions, themes to explore. Through a shared creative process these ideas are shaped into a specific theatrical form.
The first two sessions are dedicated to exploration.
We experiment and discover the group’s creative potential. Based on this process, the main theme/material/artistic direction of the LaB will be defined by the second or third class, creating a trajectory specifically for this group.
The process combines creative freedom with professional artistic guidance.
Led by Juliana Berezhnaya, practising theatre and opera directress & educator, the ideas generated by the group are developed into a clear dramaturgical structure and stage form, while keeping the individuality and creative voice of each participant.
The acting process is supported by Eleonora Shafran, actress and acting coach, who works with performance, presence, expression, connection of the group, helping the material become alive and stage-ready.
This combination of directorial and acting perspectives gives the creative process both freedom and structure, allowing ideas to grow organically while gradually shaping them into a coherent, meaningful theatrical statement.
Create · Explore · Perform
The aim is to experience the entire creative process from A to Z: exploring, generating material, making artistic choices, rehearsing, shaping and finally meeting the audience.
POSSIBLE DIRECTIONS
Option 1
Scenes, Monologues & Duets
Working with selected material from contemporary and classical theatre and discovering new ways of interpreting existing texts.
Option 2
Contemporary Dramaturgy
Exploring new playwrights, contemporary texts and theatrical languages that reflect the reality we live in today.
Option 3
Creative Writing & Devising
Generating original material together — texts, scenes, situations and dramaturgical structures created through the rehearsal process.
Option 4
Theatre & Contemporary Reality
Creating work in dialogue with current social and global questions — such as identity, feminism, inequality, climate change, poverty, peace and war.
Option 5
Interdisciplinary Theatre
Combining different artistic languages and forms at the intersection of theatre, movement, music, cinema, literature, poetry and visual art.
THE PROCESS
The group moves from exploration and experimentation towards selection, dramaturgy and composition, and finally towards a polished stage work.
The process is designed to recognise and develop the strongest qualities of each participant, reveal their creative potential and find the form in which each person can contribute most meaningfully to the work.
The LaB is built around collaboration, curiosity and artistic freedom, creating a safe and equal environment in which participants can experiment, take creative risks and develop their own artistic voice.
WHO IS IT FOR?
THEATRE LaB is open to participants with different levels of acting experience who want to experience a real creative and rehearsal process and perform in front of a live audience.
It can be taken in combination with Acting for Life or Acting for Life: Advanced, or joined independently by participants who are already familiar with the core principles of acting practice.
FINAL SHOWCASE
The laboratory concludes with a public showcase, bringing the work created during the program to a live audience.
It is the final stage of the process, where exploration becomes performance and the ideas developed by the group take their finished theatrical form.
